PSL Engineers worked closely with local sculptor Owen Bullet and architect Smith & Newton to assist with this local Waltham Forest community project. The design comprised a 6m diameter earth circle surrounded by tall tapered carved wooden posts embedded in to the subsoil. The space was further enhanced by a number of roughly hewn wooden boulders, providing seating for passers-by and school playgroups. The anticipated design life was circa 15 years. Due to the large volume of tree roots in the area it was not possible to provide any concrete footings. Following a geotechnical assessment a base detail utilising precored holes in to the firm clay subsoil was adopted. Photographs provided by Neil Perry Photography.
